Tie line, much like wire and rope, is measured in gauges. Tie line is #4, which means that the size is approx. 1/4 inch in diameter.
Unlike wire, where the lower the number the larger the wire (12 gauge is larger than 16 gauge), tie line gauges designate larger sizes as higher numbers-#8 is one half inch in diameter, as opposed to #4 which has a diameter of one quarter inch.
